Advances in technology, techniques and materials have meant that cosmetic dentistry is now widely available and affordable. Whether it be simple tooth whitening or a more complex makeover, your smile can be transformed into something that you really want and that'll get you noticed, for the right reasons!
A brief overview of what's available follows:
Tooth Whitening
The colour of all but the most stained teeth can be improved dramatically, and how badly stained your teeth are will determine which treatment is best for you.
Home Whitening - The simplest of all the treatments. Impressions of your teeth are taken at the practice, then whitening trays are fabricated. A kit is given to you to take home, comprising of a whitening gel which is squeezed into the trays which are then placed over the teeth. These are usually worn overnight for up to two weeks or longer until the desired shade is reached.
Enlighten Deep Bleaching - A similar procedure to tray bleaching. After the 2 week period, an in surgery procedure takes place where a higher concentration of whitening gel is applied to the teeth to open up pores in the enamel and allow deep bleaching to take place. This additional in surgery procedure take about one hour.

Veneers
This treatment suits people with irregularly shaped, or badly discoloured or cracked teeth.Veneers are thin porcelain shells, applied to the outer surface of teeth to improve the colour and hide any defects that might exist. For example, mottling, cracks, or severe discolouration of teeth can all be treated very successfully with the application of porcelain tooth veneers. Veneers can also be used to improve the shape of teeth; narrow or peg-shaped teeth, small gaps, or slight malpositioning can all also be improved.

White fillings
White fillings are an excellent way to return the tooth to its original colour and shape. Traditional, large black amalgam fillings normally require replacement at some point in time, otherwise they might fracture or leak. Apart from being unsightly, they become rough and dark due to metal tarnish. Amalgam-free, white fillings (containing no mercury) are becoming more and more popular for health as well as cosmetic reasons.
White fillings can be applied directly (composites), or in some cases, large cavities in molar teeth can be restored by using laboratory precision manufactured porcelain fillings which are almost impossible to tell apart from natural tooth enamel.

Metal Free (Ceramic) Crowns:
Eventually, when there are no other alternatives crowns are an excellent treatment. Ceramic or metal-free crowns (or caps) made entirely out of porcelain without any underlying metal. These can provide an excellent solution under the right circumstances. They are especially suited for front teeth as no unsightly grey margins show even if the gum shrinks.
Invisalign - A ground-breaking alternative way to straighten your teeth without braces.
It works through a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that are custom made to fit you without metal wires or brackets that no one can tell you're wearing. So much so that it's very difficult for anyone to tell that your actually wearing them!
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position your dentist has prescribed. You'll visit your dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

Things have moved on somewhat since the days of the dreaded denture! Whether it be single or multiple teeth that are missing there's simple but technologically advanced treatment using titanium inserts that are fixed in-situ which provide a very stable base for both crowns and bridges.
